Mantra Monday

Something to remember during times of jealousy or selfishness.

Pardon me if you are an extraordinary exception to the generalization I am about to make, but I am sure that everyone has been jealous of another's success at some point in one's life.  On the other hand, pretty much everyone has also gotten so caught up in one's own happiness that others are left in the dust.  This is one of my favorite little mantras not only because the homie Buddha spoke it, but also because it's easy to have lapse of character at these times and this quote is a great reminder that all benefit from shared happiness.

When I find myself jealous of another's prosperity, I recall Buddha's words here and remember that if I simply celebrate that individual's greatness, my praise will be felt and in return I will receive the joy of making another happy (surprisingly rewarding).  Win-win if ya ask me!

Alternatively, it is also easy to be so proud of one's own achievements that it is forgotten that happiness is only real when shared.  It is much more gratifying to be humble and applauded than to be pompous about successes only to find that no one is going to care and thus crickets cued where congratulations were expected.  Lose the crickets, share dat happiness.
